Kazakhstan joined ICAO's Assistance, Capacity-building, and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (ACT-SAF) program, which facilitates the exchange of best practices and current information regarding the production of aviation fuel from sustainable feedstocks, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Transport.
What happened: During his visit to Astana, Regional Director for the ICAO European and North Atlantic Office Nicolas Rallo met with Talgat Lastayev, the Vice Minister of Transport. During the talks, the Kazakh side signed the agreement to join the ICAO’s ACT-SAF program.
ICAO has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions from international flights by 2050. To support Kazakhstan in this endeavor, the organization will facilitate the exchange of best practices and current information, and participation in training workshops and seminars.
ICAO will provide technical assistance on SAF-related issues in national action plans and implementation of certain sustainable projects.
What’s SAF: Sustainable aviation fuels are derived from renewable biomass and waste resources, offering the potential to match the performance of petroleum-based jet fuel while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
