Kazakhstan’s 16-year-old Alan Kurmangaliyev won a bronze medal in the U19 Boys Singles category at the WTT Youth Contender tournament which took place in Helsingborg, Sweden, QazMonitor reports citing the national olympic committee.
Kurmangaliyev played a total of six matches, winning five of them, which brought him to the third place.
The Kazakh player went against Sweden's David Bjorkryd and emerged victorious with a score of 3:2, and faced Italian players Antonio Giordano and Giacomo Allegranza, defeating them with scores of 3:0 and 2:3, respectively. Kurmangaliyev also had to overcome Kwan To Yiu from Hong Kong (3:2), Michal Gawlas from Poland (3:2), and Dragos Bujor from Romania (3:2).
The only opponent that managed to defeat Kurmangaliyev was Japan’s Yuhi Sakai (3:0).
