Qatar-based Power International Holding plans to acquire the Kazakh telecom operator Mobile Telecom-Service LLP, which includes Tele2 and ALTEL brands, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of Samruk-Kazyna.
The agreement between Kazakhtelecom JSC, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, and Power International Holding was signed during the official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Doha.
On January 20, the government issued a decree instructing Kazakhtelecom to sell the telecom operator Mobile Telecom-Service in 2024. The merger of ALTEL and Tele2 Kazakhstan was finalized in 2016. Currently, Kazakhtelecom owns 51% of the shares of the mobile operator Kcell and 100% of Mobile Telecom-Service LLP (ALTEL/Tele2).
According to KASE data as of January 1, 2024, 71.32% of Kazakhtelecom shares are owned by Samruk-Kazyna JSC, and First Heartland Jusan Bank JSC owns 8.1%.
