Kazakhstan remains one of the world's richest countries in terms of metal ore reserves. In his 2023 Address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev identified "development of deposits of rare and rare-earth metals, which have essentially become a 'new oil,'" as a top priority for the country. This potential is being gradually realized. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, mining and quarrying generated gross value added of more than 15 billion tenge in 2023, accounting for 12.6% of the country's total GDP.
Furthermore, plans are underway for the further development of the mining and metals sector. The Ministry of Industry and Construction has developed an industry development program for 2024-2028. The document outlines plans to allocate nearly 12 billion tenge from the state budget for deposit development, ore mining, and metals production. This excludes investments from private companies in mining, geological surveys, and processing, which collectively amount to hundreds of millions of dollars.
These investments will enable Kazakhstan to increase its resource base, develop new deposits, expand existing ones, and boost the capacity of its metallurgical complexes and plants. Additionally, the global demand for rare earth metals – which Kazakhstan possesses in abundance – presents significant export potential.
Government and business representatives traditionally discuss these topics within government offices and at industry events. The Astana Mining & Metallurgy Congress and Exhibition (AMM), the largest metallurgy event in the region, will be held in Astana on June 6 and 7. This industry event features a business program, an exhibition, and the awarding of the prestigious Golden Hephaestus industry award.
AMM 2024 promises to be a large-scale industry platform for exchanging best practices, innovative ideas, and strategies supporting the sustainable development and prosperity of the mining and metallurgical sector in the region and beyond. During the two-day event, exhibitors can showcase their services, share experiences, and establish valuable business contacts with representatives of the public sector and a majority of subsoil users in Kazakhstan, facilitated by B2B and B2G meetings. The list of confirmed participants already includes Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), KAZ Minerals, Polymetal, LNDC KAZAKHSTAN, InProTech, and Kcell. New participants include Derrick Corporation, Linde Gas Kazakhstan, and WARTER POLYMERS SP. Z O.O.
This year's congress, themed "The Age of Metals: Challenges and Solutions," will create a platform for negotiations, B2B and G2B meetings between leading subsoil user companies and representatives of Kazakh government agencies. The importance of the event is reflected in the panel session topics:
Trends and Key Challenges for Kazakhstan and Global MMC: Geological Surveys, Digital Transformation, Rare Earth Metals
Building a Strategy for MMC Digital Development: Digitizing of Geological Reserves and Plants Modernization
Critical Minerals - Strategic Assets: Research of Minerals of the Future
These discussions will enable market participants to address the most pressing issues and challenges facing the industry at its current stage of development. This, in turn, will create conditions for the industry's stable development and a greater contribution to the country's economic growth.
Participation in the AMM Congress will also facilitate the expansion of cross-sector investment cooperation, the conclusion of new contracts, and the development of joint solutions to address modern challenges.
Admission to the exhibition is free with prior registration using the promo code AMM2024BDO on the website. To participate in the conference, delegate registration purchase is required.
