In 2022, resorts in Kazakhstan showed a 30% y/y increase in the number of vacationing tourists, doubling the volume of services provided and earning ₸102 billion (as of May 15, 2023, about $225 million), QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of culture and sport.
Compared to pre-pandemic levels, the number of tourists in Kazakhstan's resort areas increased threefold, and the volume of services rendered increased six times. The hospitality sector increased its beds' accommodation from 102,000 to 106,000.
Dastan Ryspekov, the chair of the tourism industry committee, the most popular destinations for travelers are the Almaty mountain cluster, the pine forests of the Burabay National Park, the Mangystau region, and the shores of Alakol Lake.
"Our goal is to increase the accessibility and capacity of resorts and recreation areas to attract a total of 11 million domestic tourists and 4 million inbound tourists within a few years. In particular, we are building new facilities and providing subsidies to entrepreneurs in the tourism sector," said Ryspekov.
