Foreign tourists coming to Aktau will have to pay a special fee, QazMonitor reports citing 24.kz.
The money will be used to develop the tourist potential of the city, namely marketing, promotion, improvement of infrastructure and quality of services. Aktau City Maslikhat announced that the decision will come into force in 10 days. The approved fee rate will amount to 1% of the cost of the stay.
Gulmira Abisheva, a city Maslikhat deputy, noted that the fee will be charged through hotels or travel companies. Considering the fact that the number of tourists coming to the region has recently increased, the state treasury will see a great inflow. This gives an opportunity to further investments into the tourism sphere of the region.
The practice of tourist fee payments is established in many countries, including Georgia, the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates. The number of tourists visiting Mangystau region has increased by 6% over the past two years. In 2021, 29 thousand foreign tourists visited the region, and in 2022 this figure has increased up to 41 thousand visitors.
