Members of the deputy group "Zhana Kazakhstan" of the Majilis of the Parliament proposed to return the capital to its former name - Astana, QazMonitor reports.
The deputies supported the initiative to elect the president for a single seven-year term. The Majilismen's statement says that it is necessary to amend the Constitution and hold presidential elections according to new rules this fall, as this step will modernize the state administration system and provide conditions for sustainable development of the country.
"In the case of adopting the amendments to the Constitution, using this opportunity, it is necessary to make another important change to the constitutional law. We are talking about the return of the former name of the capital. We consider it wrong when a city is named after a person during his lifetime, moreover, people also did not accept the new name of the capital," says the statement of the deputy group.
The Majilismen believe that it would be historically fair "to return the former name of the capital - Astana". Such a decision would take into account the First President's contribution to the establishment and development of the country's main city, as well as meet the expectations of citizens.
