Kazakh schoolchildren concluded the FIDE World Schools Team Championship 2023 in Aktau with one silver and one bronze medal, QazMonitor reports citing the championship's press service.

On August 4-7, the Caspian seaport of Aktau hosted the inaugural Schools Team Championship, attracting over 300 children from 53 countries who came to defend the honor of their schools by competing in two age categories – U18 and U12.

In the U18 category, the ENKA High School from Turkiye won all eight games, claiming gold. Meanwhile, the Almaty-based Republican School of Physics and Mathematics shared twelve points each with the Velammal Vidyalaya Alapakkam school from India, resulting in a clash for second place. The tiebreaks favored the Kazakh team.

In the U12 category, Velammal MHS Mogappair from India, much like the winners in the senior category, powered through their games, winning all eight. Ukraine’s Lviv Academic Gymnasium took home the trophy for second place. The third place saw five teams tied, but the tiebreak favored the National Physics & Mathematics School from Almaty.

During the tournament, India’s Aarav A, the Kyrgyz Republic’s Aziz Degenbaev, Turkiye’s Adar Tarhan, and Kazakhstan’s Suleyman Akhmet all won 8 out of 8 games, securing individual gold medals.
