The government of Kazakhstan will allocate ₸4.9 billion for comprehensive repairs at the Mangystau Atomic Energy Complex (MAEC) following the request from the Mangystau region's administration, QazMonitor reports citing primeminister.kz.
The funding will be used to purchase the necessary auxiliary equipment and units required for the complex. Replacing components that are in an emergency condition will ensure the technical operability of the equipment and control their reliability and safety during operation, minimizing the risks of power plant shutdowns and user restrictions.
Earlier, the state commission, investigating the power unit shutdown at MAEC, which caused blackouts across the Mangystau and Atyrau regions, identified systemic shortcomings in the work of the Western power grid and its operating companies. To prevent similar crises, the government aims to renovate the facilities at MAEC and the Western power grid, ensuring a stable external power supply to the Atyrau Oil Refinery.
