Kazakhstan and the European Union have outlined the implementation of the critical raw materials roadmap and the funding for domestic battery production, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of industry and infrastructural development.

The discussion took place during the 13th Astana Mining & Metallurgy International Congress on June 1-2. The meeting involved Marat Karabayev, the minister of industry and infrastructural development, and Maros Sefcovic, the vice-president of the European Commission.

"Joint projects have been launched with the EU, with the key one being the investment of the German company HMS Bergbau in the development of lithium deposits in Kazakhstan. Today, we have prospects of launching projects for the extraction and processing of new types of critically important battery raw materials," said Karabayev.

He highlighted that Kazakhstan covers 71% of the European phosphorus market and also supplies the region with titanium, beryllium, tantalum, rhenium, and vanadium. This positions Kazakhstan with significant prospects for transitioning to advanced manufacturing while establishing joint production facilities for ore processing and the production of finished goods.

The industry minister stressed that cooperation with the EU is based on principles of experience and technology exchange, as well as the involvement of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investors.

We adhere to the single principle of 'raw materials in exchange for technology'.
