Kazakh prime minister Alikhan Smailov discussed bilateral trade with the emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the 3rd Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, QazMonitor reports citing the PM's press service.
During his speech, Smailov emphasized the significance of Qatar as a vital political and economic partner for Kazakhstan in the Arabian Peninsula. The first quarter of this year saw an increase in bilateral trade turnover by 17.7 times, while Qatari investments to Kazakhstan surged threefold in 2022.
"We see significant potential for further expanding bilateral trade, and in this regard, we propose to increase exports of Kazakh products to Qatar across 60 commodity items by nearly $243 million," said Smailov.
Both parties emphasized the importance of collaboration between state funds Qatar Investment Authority and Samruk-Kazyna and expressed plans to establish a joint private equity fund.
