Today, April 14, the Billie Jean King Cup (BJK Cup) kicks off with a qualifying match between the women's tennis teams of Kazakhstan and Poland, QazMonitor reports citing Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.
The BJK Cup qualifiers take place April 14-15 around the world, with the winning countries advancing to the 2023 finals, where they will be part of the world's premier international tennis competition.
Team Kazakhstan consists of coach Yaroslava Shvedova, world No.7 Elena Rybakina, world no.43 Yulia Putintseva, world No.24 in doubles Anna Danilina, world No.336 in doubles Gozal Ainitdinova, Zhanel Rustemova, and Aruzhan Sagandikova.
On April 14, Yulia Putintseva will start the qualifiers with a match against Magda Linette. The pair will take to the tennis court at 1:30 p.m. Astana time (GMT+6). Their bout will be followed by Elena Rybakina going against Weronika Falkowska closing off the first day.
On April 15, the pairs Elena Rybakina vs Magda Linette, and Yulia Putintseva vs Weronika Falkowska are scheduled for singles while Anna Danilina/Gozal Ainitdinova vs Alicja Rosolska/Weronika Falkowska for doubles will wrap up the tournament.
