Kazakhstan plans to supply foreign markets with more than nine million tons of grain and flour this year, QazMonitor reports.

Azat Sultanov, director of the production and processing department under the ministry of agriculture, said the country normally exports about 6-7 million tons of grain and 1.5-2 million tons of flour a year.

“Last year was quite successful for exporters. We exported a record number of 13.2 million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent," Sultanov said.

He added that if this year's harvest is successful, the country can count on the export potential within these margins.

The ministry also plans to increase the area of grain and leguminous crops by 117,000 hectares, fodder crops by 36,500 hectares, and sugar beets by 6,700 hectares this year.
