Uzbekistan intends to increase cargo shipments through Kazakhstan’s Aktau port to Europe, according to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's Dunyo news agency, QazMonitor reports.
Atabek Tursynbekov, consul general of Uzbekistan in Aktau, and Abay Turikpenbaev, board chairman of JSC "NC Aktau Sea Trade Port", met on Monday to discuss the logistical aspect of increasing the export supply of Uzbek products.
"The head of the Aktau Commercial Seaport ... expressed his readiness to accept applications from Uzbek exporters to transship cargo through the Aktau Commercial Seaport and provide them with special preferential services," the report published by Dunyo said.
An expansion of Aktau’s port capacity is currently underway as part of a long-term project to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport route.
Turikpenbayev stressed that a larger capacity will offer Uzbek entrepreneurs an alternative way to enter European markets in the future.
