Almaty Zoo shared photos of their new inhabitant – a polar bear named Purga, QazMonitor reports citing the zoo’s Instagram page.

Purga [means Blizzard in Russian] is six years old, and she has been transported to Almaty from the Moscow Zoo. The transportation involved thorough preparation of the enclosure, building a pool, and coordination with the commission of the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

"When she arrived at our zoo, she was placed under quarantine (a general zoo policy for all arriving or departing animals). Now the quarantine is over, and our visitors can meet the new zoo inhabitant. She lives in a huge aviary with two outdoor pools. In addition, her house has a powerful AC and a floor with cooling”, the zoo shared on Instagram.

Purga has a very diverse diet – she enjoys eating beef and chicken, herring and humpback salmon, apples, pears, carrots, lettuce, and honey. Despite her frosty nickname, Purga is very tender and friendly. The zoo notes that during the summer season, many visitors, especially children, can get to know her better.
