Kazakhstan and the Republic of Maldives agreed to launch direct flights between the countries through commercial airlines, QazMonitor reports citing the Civil Aviation Committee. Earlier, travel was possible through charter flights only.

The flight frequency will also increase from twice a week to seven weekly flights from both sides.

Yesterday, Kazakhstan also agreed to resume direct air travel to Malaysia. Before the coronavirus pandemic, Malaysia’s low-cost airline Air Asia was supposed to launch its air services to Kazakhstan in 2019 but the plans were suspended to travel restrictions.

Thanks to the agreement, Air Asia will again be able to launch direct flights to Kazakhstan from Kuala Lumpur in 2023 with an additional flight to a third country.

Kazakhstan has been steadily expanding its flight network and frequencies to take advantage of the open skies regime that was set in place this year. So far, the country's air carriers conduct flights to 28 countries on 111 travel routes.
