Domestic tourism continues to grow actively in the Karagandy Region. One of the driving forces behind this trend is the Visit Karaganda tourist information center, established in 2025. The center’s specialists combined the region’s industrial and cultural heritage to create a new guided tour called Industrial Karagandy.
The route was first tested by tour operators, journalists, and bloggers, QazMonitor reports citing Karagandy Region Akimat press service. Over one day, participants visited three cities and one settlement — starting in Temirtau and finishing in Dolinka.
Kazakhstan’s President has repeatedly emphasized that tourism should become one of the key drivers of economic growth, with each region offering its own unique attractions.
“Karaganda Region is not only known for its picturesque nature but also as a hub of the country’s industrial potential. The new route aims to show the region from a different perspective — through the lens of history and industry,”
In Temirtau, participants visited a museum showcasing the history of metallurgy. They also took a ride on a tram produced by the QazTehna plant — a unique type of urban transport for Kazakhstan that is now also seen as a tourist attraction.
After exploring Temirtau’s Winter Garden, the group headed to Karagandy. There, visitors toured a training mine at the local mining college, where they experienced the atmosphere of a miner’s region and learned how coal extraction works.
The itinerary also included visits to operating industrial sites — a household chemicals plant in Karagandy and a tire factory in Saran. The tour concluded at the Museum of Political Repression Victims in Dolinka.
The Visit Karaganda center is also expanding its digital offerings. For travelers, it has developed an online guide.
“We launched an AI-powered chatbot that helps tourists plan trips across the region. It suggests routes, provides information on attractions, hotels, gas stations, and rest areas — and it supports communication in 180 languages,” said Bakhtiyar Bekmurzayev, Director of Visit Karaganda.
