As of September 1, 2022, there are 15,524 foreign nationals working on the territory of Kazakhstan with permits from local executive bodies, QazMonitor reports with reference to Central Communications Service.
Foreign workforce permits are divided into the following categories: 594 permits for managers and their deputies (Category I), 3,091 permits for heads of structural subdivisions (Category II), 8, 894 permits for specialists (Category III), and 911 permits for skilled workers (Category IV).
1,430 people arrived for seasonal work while 1,604 people came through corporate transfer.
At the moment, there are 1,748 employers in Kazakhstan who hired foreign employees. They oversee more than 400 thousand Kazakh citizens, who account for 96% of the total workforce.
The economic sector with the largest number of foreign workers is the construction industry with 6,139 people (40%), followed by mining and quarrying with 1,489 people (10%) agriculture, forestry and fishing with 1,256 people (8%), scientific and technical professions with 1,158 people (8%), and manufacturing with 1,154 people (8%).
Most frequently represented nationalities among the foreign workforce are China (3,576 people), India (1,740 people), Turkey (1,701 people), Uzbekistan (1,535 people), and Great Britain (1,127 people).
In order to protect the domestic labor market, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan annually sets and distributes quotas to attract foreign specialists to the country.
In January of this year, the Ministry reduced the quota for the foreign labor force by 16%, from the previously planned 28,352 to 23,560 units.
