Kazakhstan’s highest-ranked tennis player Elena Rybakina made it to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, USA, Qazmonitor reports citing the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.
Rybakina, who is currently ranked as no. 25 in the world, passed the third round of the tournament after beating the world’s 29th best player, USA’s Alison Riske with 6:2, 6:4. The match lasted 1 hour and 26 minutes. She had nine aces and one double fault, and Riske had only one service and two double faults.
In the quarterfinals, Rybakina will play against the tournament sensation, Madison Keys of USA, ranked 24 in the world, who previously defeated world no.1, Iga Swiatek of Poland with 6:3, 6:4.
Both Keys and Rybakina will play today (August 19th) to pass to the semifinals.
In the same tournament, Kazakhstan's no.1 doubles player Anna Danilina also reached the quarterfinals with her partner Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil after the duo beat the Japanese-Chinese pair, Ena Shibahara and Zhang Shuai, with 6:3, 6:3.
Danilina and Maia will play against Ukraine's Lyudmila Kichenok and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.
