Vice-Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Askhat Orazbek gave a deadline for the introduction of 5G in Kazakhstan, Qazmonitor reports.
In an interview at the international forum "Towards Digital Kazakhstan", Vice-minister Orazbek said that the installation of a 5G network across the entire country is planned for 2024.
In June of this year, national telecommunications operator Kazakhtelecom set up a test trial for its 5G network in three cities – Nur-Sultan, Almaty, and Shymkent. According to the vice-minister, Turkestan has now become the latest city to join the pilot network.
"The current version of 5G does not allow full connection in all populated areas. Therefore, the coverage will be done in certain locations with a large concentration of people – some malls, promenades, parks, etc.," Askhat Orazbek said.
He added that the ministry is cooperating with communication service providers to ensure that the cities will have the capacity to support the growth in traffic and consumption when 5G is finally introduced. According to him, they are anticipating the development of industry 4.0, IT, and smart homes as a result.
“The population will experience all the opportunities 5G has to provide in our country in the coming two years,” the vice-minister concluded.
