Kazakh B-Boy Amir Zakirov has qualified for the Olympics in breaking, QazMonitor reports citing the National Olympic Committee.
Zakirov earned his 2024 Paris quota after an impressive performance at the Olympic Qualifier Series Budapest. He reached the finals and secured second place, just behind Lee – a B-Boy from the Netherlands, while Hong10 from South Korea took third place.
Over two stages of the qualification series, Amir scored 71 points (he finished 15th in the Shanghai event). His sixth place overall secured him a spot in the Olympics.
Breaking is debuting in the Olympic program, and Zakirov’s qualification marks a historic milestone. He will be the first Kazakhstani to represent the country in this sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Breaking featured at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018. Following its outstanding success at the Games in Argentina, breaking was added to the Paris 2024 Olympic programme as a new sport.
In 2021, B-Boy Amir won Red Bull BC One in Poland – the most prestigious world breaking championship. He also represented Kazakhstan at the World Breaking Championship in New York in March 2024, once again showcasing his talents on the world stage.
