Kazakhstan and the Netherlands signed agreements focused on water management and training water specialists, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
What happened: On May 29 in Astana, Water Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Deputy Water Minister Bolat Bekniyaz, and Nico Schermers, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan, met to sign memorandums on water management and specialist training.
The memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands outlines cooperation in the construction and use of water management facilities, flood forecasting, and planning of flood control measures. It includes the exchange of expertise in flood water regulation and utilization, along with studying the Netherlands' experience in runoff management.
Additionally, a second memorandum signed with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education focuses on training water specialists and promoting cooperation in water science and innovative technologies.
Today's meeting is important in our relations with the Netherlands. I’m confident that our cooperation will help realize large-scale and promising projects, and the exchange of experience and technologies will help unlock the potential of the domestic water sector.
