Cyprus to Open Embassy in Kazakhstan

Cypriot investments in the Kazakh economy amounted to $4.1 billion

The Republic of Cyprus plans to open an embassy in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing Kazinform.

What happened: On March 5, during the meeting in Astana, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Cyprus, Murat Nurtleu and Constantinos Kombos, announced plans to open a Cypriot embassy in the Kazakh capital.

We highly appreciate the initiative of opening the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana. The government of Kazakhstan is ready to support the opening of the diplomatic mission. It is very important to exchange visits of officials of both countries, which will bring the political relations between Kazakhstan and Cyprus to a new level.

The big picture: Over the past year, the two countries have increased the level of diplomatic relations. In 2023, Kazakhstan and Cyprus held political consultations between foreign ministries for the first time. Moreover, according to the National Bank of Kazakhstan, from 2005 to the third quarter of 2023, the volume of Cypriot investments in the national economy amounted to $4.1 billion. As of January 1, 2024, Kazakhstan has 328 companies operating with Cypriot capital participation.
