On May 5, Kazakhstan opened an honorary consulate in the Georgian city of Gori, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of foreign affairs.
Malik Murzalin, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Georgia, stated that the consulate would cover the Shida Kartli region and play an important role in bilateral relations, particularly in developing business, cultural, humanitarian, sports, and tourism ties.
"The priority, of course, should be given to assisting our citizens and representing their interests in Georgia, as well as holding various joint events," said Murzalin.
Mikheil Shakulashvili, the governor of the Shida Kartli region, stated that the institution would promote the expansion of economic cooperation, investments, and scientific and cultural exchanges between the regions and cities of the two republics.
This is the fourth honorary consulate of Kazakhstan in Georgia.
