"In this regard, subway operations will resume within three hours after receiving permission from the Department of Emergency Situations (DES) to enter workplaces. Further information will be released upon advice from the DES. No destruction within the subway's premises was recorded, and passengers were successfully evacuated,"
What happened: The earthquake was registered by the seismic station network of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Emergency Situations Ministry of Kazakhstan on March 4 at 11:22:05 AM Almaty time (March 4 at 06:22:06 GMT). The epicenter of the earthquake is located 31 km south of Almaty on the territory of Kazakhstan, with an energy class of 13.2 and a magnitude MPV of 6.1. The coordinates of the epicenter are 42.93° N, 76.96° E, and the depth is 10 km. According to the MSK-64 scale, the sensitivity in Almaty was 5 MSK.
This marks the second significant earthquake in Almaty since the beginning of the year. The first quake occurred on January 23 with the epicenter located 264 km southeast of Almaty, on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic (energy class of 15.1).
