Gennadiy Golovkin — New President of National Olympic Committee

GGG will replace former NOC’s President Timur Kulibayev, who has announced his resignation today

Today, Gennadiy Golovkin has been elected as the President of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee. The elections for the NOC’s president and its key governing bodies were held at an extraordinary session of the General Assembly of the Committee in Astana, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Committee.

"Timur Kulibayev, who had headed the organization since 2015, has resigned. Gennadiy Golovkin was elected as the new head of the NOC of Kazakhstan. Members of the General Assembly unanimously supported his candidacy," reads the official statement.

Gennadiy Golovkin, born in 1983 in Karagandy, is a Kazakh professional boxer who competes in the middle and second middleweight categories. He is a silver medalist in the Olympic Games and a world champion in the amateur category. At the professional scene, he holds the titles of two-time IBF, WBA, and IBO world champion, currently reigning as the IBO world champion.

Gennadiy Golovkin, known by his nickname "GGG" or "Triple G", is a Kazakhstani professional boxer. He has held multiple middleweight world championships and is a two-time former unified champion. He held the WBA (Super version), WBC and IBF titles at varying points between 2014 and 2023. The boxer challenged once for the undisputed super middleweight championship in 2022. He is also a former IBO middleweight champion, having held the title twice between 2011 and 2023. In June 2023, Golovkin vacated the last belt he had - the IBO middleweight title.
