Gymnasts and boxers bring in the medals while tennis players climb ranks

The changing of weather is not the only good news coming our way as athletes are filling up the Kazakhstani medal shelf from wins at the international tournaments in gymnastics and boxing. In the meantime, tennis player Golubev rises up the top 30 ranks in men's doubles.  

Gymnasts take medals at World Cup

The FIG Apparatus World Cup 2022 in Baku, Azerbaijan which took place March 31-April 3 announces the winners of the series in each event among men and women.

Nariman Kurbanov became champion of the World Cup with a gold medal in the pommel horse exercise, scoring a total of 14,633 points. Second place went to Matvey Petrov of Albania, with the Frenchman Tommason Cyril taking bronze.

Kazakhstan's Milad Karimi won silver in the floor exercise with a total of 14,300 points. Artem Dolgopyat of Israel won the gold medal and Eamon Montgomery of Ireland won the bronze medal.

First wins at boxing tournament in Thailand

Nurbek Oralbay made it through the semifinal in the 81-kilogram weight category at the Thailand Open.

Thanks to a draw, Oralbay is due for another competition straight after the semifinals. His opponent for the final will be Anawat Tongkatok of Thailand and New Zealand fighter Onyx Lee.

Earlier at the tournament, Saken Bibosynov, Serik Temirzhanov, and Ayatulla Takizhanov also finished their first fights successfully.

Ayatulla Takizhanov won his third match against Sittisak Chumkumar of Thailand with a score of 5-0

A career-high for tennis player in ATP men's doubles rankings

Golubev rose a rank up to number 24 on the updated ATP men’s doubles rankings this week, Kazinform reports. Another Kazakhstani Aleksandr Nedovyesov also moved one spot up to number 62.

Unlike Golubev and Nedovyesov, Alexander Bublik slid one spot down to number 67. As for men’s singles ranking, the 24-year-old Bublik lost four spots and landed number 37. Mikhail Kukushkin fell to number 160. Dmitry Popko, on the contrary, improved his standing by climbing 6 spots up to number 169.
