On February 1, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov held talks in Almaty with Akylbek Japarov, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, and discussed the development of trade and economic relations, QazMonitor reports citing primeminister.kz.
The Prime Minister highlighted the joint efforts of both countries' governments to achieve a trade turnover of $2 billion. As of the first eleven months of 2023, the mutual trade has increased by 12%, reaching $1.3 billion.
"The effective operation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the Intergovernmental Council and the Interregional Cooperation Forum, facilitates this. The Government of Kazakhstan is ready furthermore to support the Kazakh-Kyrgyz strategic partnership in all directions," Smailov emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in trade and economic, oil and gas industries. They also agreed to work on the opening of an additional checkpoint for trucks on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border as soon as possible and to strengthen cooperation in hydroelectric power.
