The budget has allocated ₸110 billion (as of January 31, 2024, $244.9 million) for the development of the water resources system in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Moldir Abdualiyeva.

The spokesperson noted that the republican budget has allocated ₸110 billion ($244.9 million), of which ₸25 billion ($55.6 million) will be sent to the regional municipal bodies for the improvement of facilities, construction of water pipeline clusters to provide residents with drinking water, reconstruction of irrigation networks, irrigation works, remuneration of water sector workers, and other activities.

Earlier, the Head of the Ministry, Nurlan Nurzhigitov, announced that Kazakhstan requires ₸2 trillion ($4.45 billion) to renovate water reservoirs and introduce water-saving technologies.

Abdualiyeva specified that the mentioned amount is an expert estimation for the restoration of the entire system of water resources in the nation, including the deterioration of water bodies. The Ministry hasn’t been in talks about allocating this amount. She also noted that the government will work on attracting private investment.
