Elena Rybakina won her first career match in Montreal at the Canadian Open. The third-seeded player faced Jennifer Brady in the second round, emerging victorious with a score of 6(3):7(7), 7(7):6(5), 6:3, QazMonitor reports citing the WTA’s press service.
The match began on Tuesday but was suspended until Wednesday due to rain, with Brady leading the tie-break in the first set 4:2. Ultimately, the American player won the tie-break the following day 6:7. Still, Rybakina bounced back, clocking 44 winners to Brady's 19, despite being two points from defeat at 5:5 in the second-set tiebreak, closing it out with a score of 7:6. The decisive set immediately went in Rybakina’s favor, ending in 6:3.
Throughout the match, Elena Rybakina scored twelve aces and committed five double faults, while her opponent made three aces and six double faults.
In the third round on August 11, she will face another American player, the 2017 US Open winner, Sloane Stephens.
