The Kazakh Industry Ministry intends to restrict non-core businesses that do not have contracts for extracting or preparing hard or brown coal, banning them from exporting coal via railroad transportation, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry’s press service.
During the previous heating season, some border regions of the country faced significant shortages of utility coal, which was intended for households, schools, healthcare facilities, and administrative buildings. This shortage occurred due to resellers buying utility coal at lower prices and then selling it for export at a significant markup.
To prevent the shortage in the upcoming heating season, the ministry is preparing a resolution to grant exclusive rights for exporting specific types of coal.
