Nearly 10,500 Ethnic Kazakhs Returned to Kazakhstan in 2023

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population shared the statistics

As of July 1, 2023, 10,488 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland and were granted the status of Kandas, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.

More than half of the Kandas (56%) who have arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2023 are from Uzbekistan, 19.3% people are from China, 9.7% - from Russia, 7.8% - from Mongolia, 4.6% - from Turkmenistan, and 2.6% of the Kandas are from other countries.

As of July 1 this year, the number of ethnic migrants of working age is 65.6%, 25.8% are below working age, and 8.6% are pensioners.

Regarding education, 16.7% have higher education, 37.1% have specialized secondary education and 38.8% have general secondary education.

The quota for accepting Kandas in the settlement regions for 2023 is 1,925 people. As of July 1, 2023, 1,032 people have settled in the regions.

In total, 1,117.6 thousand ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the country since 1991.
