Kazakhstan Bags First Medal at 2023 Asian Athletics Championships

The national team currently ranks 4th, trailing behind Japan, China, and Thailand

Kazakh track and field athlete Shadrack Kimutai Koech won a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, QazMonitor reports citing the national olympic committee.

On July 12-16, the capital of Thailand is hosting the 25th edition of the Asian Championships, which also serves as the qualification stage for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Koech brought the national team its first medal at the championships, competing in the 10,000-meter run. The athlete finished second with a time of 29:31.63, trailing Japan's Ren Tazawa (29:18.44), and ahead of India's Abhishek Pal with 29:33.26.

Currently, Kazakhstan stands 4th in the overall standings with one medal, trailing behind Japan with six medals, China with four medals, and Thailand with two medals.
