Women's Wrestling Team Carries Kazakhstan to 3rd Place at 2023 Yasar Dogu

The national women's wrestling team concluded the 2023 Yasar Dogu Tournament in Istanbul with three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, QazMonitor reports citing Olympic.

On June 23-25, Istanbul hosted the 51st edition of the Yasar Dogu Tournament 2023, an international wrestling event that drew participation from over 130 athletes representing twelve countries. Kazakhstan was represented by 18 athletes from both the men's and women's teams.

The national women's wrestling team competed in the freestyle category, winning a total of eight medals and securing second place in the women's freestyle standings and third place in the tournament overall. The team finished ahead of Azerbaijan, and behind Turkiye and Iran, which ranked second and first respectively.

The list of medalists from Team Kazakhstan is as follows:

  • Ainur Ashimova (under 55 kg) – gold medal

  • Yelena Shalygina (under 68 kg) – gold medal

  • Gulmaral Yerkebayeva (under 76 kg) – gold medal

  • Laura Almaganbetova (under 53 kg) – silver medal

  • Diana Kayumova (under 59 kg) – silver medal

  • Irina Kazyulina (under 65 kg) – silver medal

  • Emma Tissina (under 57 kg) – bronze medal

  • Meruert Imanbekova (under 68 kg) – bronze medal
