UNESCO Lists Kazakh Orteke Art as Intangible Cultural Heritage

Burabay and Markakol reserves also joined the global network of biosphere reserves

The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, QazMonitor reports citing Akorda press service.

During the meeting they discussed the cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNESCO regarding relevant questions of preservation of the cultural and historical heritage, and expansion of international contacts in the areas of education and science.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly appreciated Director General’s leadership at the helm of UNESCO and expressed support for the further strengthening of the organization. He also confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to implementing joint projects on climate, biodiversity and water resources.

Audre Azule presented the President the certificates of inclusion of Burabay and Markakol nature reserves in the biosphere reserves global network as well as the musical and puppet art Orteke in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.
