The volume of sea shipping in Kazakhstan exceeded 1.1 million tons in 2022, QazMonitor reports citing the Bureau of national statistics.
In 2022, a total of 1,193,700 tons of cargo was transported by sea, representing a significant 46.8% increase compared to the previous year's 812,900 tons. Additionally, the cargo turnover by maritime transport for 2022 reached 681.9 million t⋅km, marking a 23.3% increase compared to 2021's figure of 552.8 million t⋅km.
The Bureau also reported that over 89,200 people were transported by sea.
Currently, Kazakhstan possesses 282 registered sea vessels, including barges, oil tankers, dry-cargo ships, supply vessels, and others. In terms of age, 23% of the ships are over 25 years old, 22% are between 16 and 20 years old, and another 26.6% are between 11 and 15 years old. Only 9.9% of the ships were commissioned 5 years ago.
