Ahead of the 2nd round at the French Open in Paris, Elena Rybakina has entered the top 3 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) live rankings for the first time in her career, QazMonitor reports.
In the live rankings, the Kazakh tennis player advanced past players from the US and France, Jessica Pegula and Caroline Garcia, respectively, while Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus overtook the first spot from Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
The points won at last year's French Open were deducted from all participants in the competition, which resulted in the current ranking leader and the defending champion of this year's Roland-Garros Iga Swiatek, losing 2,000 points. Rybakina lost only 160 points.
The official WTA ranking will be announced after the competition.
Earlier, Rybakina faced Brenda Fruhvirtova from the Czech Republic (6:4, 6:2) and advanced to the second round. The Kazakh tennis player scored nine aces to her opponent's none and made one double fault, while Fruhvirtova made six.
