On May 23, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed the potential for political, trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian collaboration with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a telephone conversation, QazMonitor reports citing Akorda.
The president conveyed heartfelt condolences to Meloni and the Italian people following the tragic loss of lives caused by the devastating floods in the Emilia-Romagna region. The disaster resulted in the cancellation of the Italian PM’s scheduled visit to Astana planned to take place this week.
The two leaders emphasized the promising opportunities for cooperation in joint projects spanning energy, transportation, industrial production, and agriculture.
In 2022, the bilateral trade reached over $15 billion last year, with over 270 Italian companies working in Kazakhstan.
