On May 22 in Astana, Kazakhstan and the European Union discussed the possibility of expanding the range of Kazakh food exports to Europe at the 6th meeting of the Kazakhstan-EU Cooperation Committee in Trade Configuration, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of trade and integration.

The meeting chaired by Kairat Torebayev, the vice minister of trade and integration, and Nele Eichhorn, the European commission’s head of unit for southern neighbours, Middle East, Turkiye, Russia, Belarus and Central Asia, focused on the development of the Kazakh agricultural organic sector, as our country has the potential to offer the European market over 175 types of processed products worth more than $2.3 billion in various industries, including engineering, iron and steel production, processed food, and agriculture.

In particular, the sides noted that as a major grain producer, Kazakhstan could emerge as a strategic partner for the EU in the pursuit of the global food agenda.

The discussions also covered topics such as labeling, technical regulation, and the roadmap for the bilateral strategic partnership on sustainable raw materials, batteries, and renewable hydrogen value chains, with further steps outlined for implementation.
