Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Seek to Increase Trade Turnover up to $10B

The mutual trade turnover between the countries reached $5 billion in 2022

On May 5, the prime ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Alikhan Smailov and Abdulla Aripov, held talks on the eve of the 20th meeting of the Intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation in Tashkent, QazMonitor reports citing the PM’s press service.

The parties discussed joint steps in trade, industrial cooperation, investment activities, energy, logistics, use of transboundary waters, and strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties.

In 2022, according to the Kazakh prime minister, the bilateral trade turnover reached the planned $5 billion.

"Now, in accordance with the tasks set at the highest level, we have to increase the volume of mutual trade turnover up to $10 billion in the medium term," said Smailov.

His colleague, Abdulla Aripov, noted a high potential for further strengthening of strategic partnership32 between the republics, as Uzbekistan is interested in further deepening relations.
