On May 2, the minister of energy Almassadam Satkaliyev discussed with the minister delegate of the French Republic for foreign trade, attractiveness and French nationals abroad Olivier Becht the implementation of the energy infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of energy.
The ministers discussed their governments' commitments to the energy transition and comprehensive decarbonization goals, while also seeking to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
With regard to that, an agreement was reached on April 29 between the Kazakh ministry of energy, national oil and gas company KazMunayGas, and French renewable energy power producer Total Eren for the construction of a 1 GW wind farm in the village of Mirny in the Zhambyl region. During the May 2 meeting, the parties signed a joint statement on the agreements reached on the electricity tariff within the project’s framework.
Moreover, the sides discussed the prospects for the development of nuclear energy. The French side expressed their readiness to cooperate on the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant and the potential for the development of small modular reactors.
