President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed with Ma Xingrui, the secretary of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, the development of interregional cooperation, QazMonitor reports citing Akorda.

The conversation addressed issues of cooperation in industry, transport, logistics, agriculture, and tourism between the border regions of Kazakhstan and Xinjiang.

President Tokayev noted the active and trusting political dialogue between the two countries, calling China a key trading partner of our country. He also drew the interlocutor's attention to the visit of general secretary Xi Jinping to Kazakhstan last October, noting that it served to secure major agreements at the highest level.

In turn, Ma Xingrui said that Xinjiang plays a big part in China’s trade policy.

“We, as a region of China, are responsible for our country's ties to the West. Kazakhstan is our top priority direction for mutual cooperation. In fact, China’s cooperation with Kazakhstan is carried out through Xinjiang," explained Xingrui.
