Board chairman of Kazakhtelecom Kuanyshbek Yesekeyev said the telecommunications operator will deploy more than 7,000 5G stations in Kazakhstan by 2027, QazMonitor reports.
In a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Yesekeyev reported that the construction of the 5G network will be carried out by MTS LLP and Kcell. This year 486 stations will be put into operation in Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent.
The presentation revealed major projects for building a more stable Internet infrastructure in the country. In 2023, Yesekeyev said Kazakhtelecom will work on the provision of villages with Internet, transfer of Kazakhstani subscribers from obsolete technologies of ADSL data transfer to optics, and provision of residents of multi-story buildings with high-speed Internet on GPON technology.
Kazakhtelecom is also currently building a fiber-optic line on the Caspian Sea bed along the Azerbaijan–Kazakhstan route in cooperation with AzerTelecom.
