According to the migration service of the Astana city police department, 1,281 people obtained Kazakh citizenship in 2022, QazMonitor reports citing Kazinform.

The deputy head of the migration service, Anar Zhomartova, reported that 157 were granted citizenship by a presidential decree and the remaining 1,124 – through a simplified procedure. The latter number includes 892 ethnic Kazakhs and 389 people of other ethnicities.

“In 2022, there were no appeals on citizenship renunciation,” Zhomartova said.

She also noted that due to Kazakhstan’s restriction on holding dual citizenship, 753 people lost their Kazakh citizenship. The administrative punishment was imposed on 43 former citizens.
