Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbayev proposed to create a “Digital Transport Corridor” to facilitate seamless data exchange in cross-border transport of goods between countries of Central Asia and the European Union, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the ministry of industry and infrastructural development.
The Kazakh minister participated in the Samarkand Conference on European Union-Central Asia Connectivity, where he made a presentation on the "Transport system of Kazakhstan in the new geopolitical realities".
He highlighted the important roles of the Middle Corridor that links China to the EU and the ongoing development of the Southern Gas Corridor, which supplies natural gas through pipelines connecting the Caspian Sea and Middle Eastern regions and Europe. The routes either run through the Kazakh territory or are used for the export of Kazakh goods.
Kazakhstan has several transport and logistics projects in the works until 2025, including the creation of a container hub in the port of Aktau, the construction of a second railway on the Dostyk-Moiynty section, and a bypass railway line of Almaty station.
The main intention is to increase the volume of cargo transit through Kazakhstan up to 10 million tons per year, Uskenbayev said.
That is why, the digitalization of transport documents was quoted to create easier access for Kazakhstan to international markets, and vice versa. Another proposal was made to establish through fare for the transportation of cargo.
According to the minister, these proposals will establish a stable and secure connection between the European Union and Central Asia.
