Passengers traveling from or within Kazakhstan may get better compensation for delayed flights, Qazmonitor reports citing Tengrinews.
The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure stated its aim to make airlines feel accountable for flight delays by considering amendments to the existing legislation. The amount of fine paid for flight delays is also said to be under discussion.
According to the ministry, Air Astana has already been fined four times for non-compliance with the rights of citizens in the case of flight delays, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.
The recent fine came after the delay of the low-cost subsidiary of Air Astana, Fly Arystan, which departed 15 hours later than the scheduled time from Almaty to Shymkent. Other instances of flight delays in June and July caused passengers to wait over 10 hours without hotel accomodations.
