The New York Times, an American media outlet, has recently released its annual list of 52 must-visit places worldwide for 2024, including Kazakhstan’s largest city Almaty in the 25th spot, QazMonitor reports.

The editorial board highlighted Almaty's peaceful atmosphere, describing it as a town with a 'rural' charm. The city has solidified its position as a cultural hub in Central Asia and boasts a diverse culinary scene, offering neo-nomadic cuisine presented in a hyper-modern style.

The article showcases several iconic landmarks in Almaty, including the Ascension Cathedral, alongside other notable sites like the Arasan baths, Green Bazaar, and the city’s subway.

Almaty is the sole city from Central Asia featured in The New York Times' list. Kazakhstan previously earned a spot on the list in 2017, leading up to the EXPO 2017 in Astana.
