The national carrier, Air Astana, has signed a codeshare partnership agreement with Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) to operate joint flights on the Baku-Almaty-Baku route five times a week, QazMonitor reports citing the airline's press service.
The agreement will provide passengers with more flexibility in flights between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. This way, in the case of a delayed or canceled flight, the passengers from one carrier can be rebooked on flights operated by a partner company.
Air Astana first signed an interline agreement in 2005, and since then, the company has strengthened ties with other international carriers in Asia and Europe. In addition to AZAL, Air Astana currently has code-share agreements with Asiana Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Cathay Pacific, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, and Turkish Airlines.
