On July 4, a representative of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control announced that Almaty has moved to the "yellow zone" due to the epidemiological situation in the city, Tengrinews reports.

The representative, Yerzhan Baitanayev, added that the decision on which restrictions will be introduced by the chief sanitary doctor of Almaty will be revealed soon.

Earlier, QazMonitor wrote about Kazakhstan experiencing a daily increase in coronavirus cases for the first time since March 2022.

According to the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Almaty, the culprit behind the increase in cases is the stealth-omicron type of the virus. The department believes that those who have not been vaccinated and revaccinated are the most likely candidates to get infected, Informburo reports.

The Interdepartmental Commission for the Prevention of Emergence and Spread of Coronavirus Infection previously agreed on restrictions should the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan worsens. If a region moves into the "yellow" zone of epidemiological risk, the following measures might be undertaken:

- close contact persons should be transferred to a remote form of work;

- employees with absolute contraindications to vaccination against COVID-19 and pregnant women should be transferred to remote work;

- mandatory wearing of masks indoors and on public transport;

- meetings with more than 10 people should take place online;

- Regardless of the zone of epidemiological risk, it is recommended to wear masks in air and rail transport, and in international bus transportation.
