Auezov South Kazakhstan University and Nobel laureate Rae Kwon Chung signed a memorandum of cooperation to establish a center for new climate economy named after the laureate on October 26, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of science and higher education.
Rae Kwon Chung received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for “efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change”.
According to Maxat Kurbenov, founder of Nobel Fest, the center will conduct research on the topic of climate economy. Professor Chung will be able to formally teach undergraduate and doctoral students at the university.
One part of the center will be devoted to scientific research and the other part to educational programs.
“As Nobel Fest cooperates with such people [as Professor Chung], we're creating a networking platform for universities to connect with them,” Kurbenov said.
The memorandum was signed during the meeting of Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek with the guests of honor at Nobel Fest. The parties discussed the current issues of international cooperation in education and science, as well as global trends in scientific and technological development.
